LaNell was born on June 12, 1941 in Freehome, Georgia, daughter of the late Clyde and Oler Leigh Bruce Wilkie.
She graduated from Forsyth County High School in 1959 where she was a member of the Forsyth girl's basketball team who were State Champions. LaNell was inducted into the school's Hall of Fame on October 13, 2016.
LaNell spent her life as a dedicated homemaker to her family and was an active member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where she loved her ladies Sunday School class. She loved gospel music, cooking for her family, traveling with her siblings, playing basketball, and spending time with her three grandsons.
Married to Dean Lewis for sixty years, they resided in White, GA and had two children: Jeff Lewis (Kim) of Cartersville and Tracy Lewis of Rydal. Grandchildren Macall Lewis, Parker Lewis and Peyton Lewis all of Cartersville; sister, Linda Andrews (Jack) of Cumming, GA; brother, Buren Wilkie (Betty) of Alamo, GA; a host of nieces and nephews also survive.
She is preceded in death by her sisters, Dorothy Frady, Katherine Mills and Shirley Bielicki.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at two o'clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, the 9th of November, 2021 at Wofford's Crossroads Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Poe officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers are Don Richey, Mike "Monkey Wrench" Pappalardo , John Adair, Fred Stephenson, Scott Martin, Macall Lewis and Parker Lewis.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from four o'clock in the afternoon until eight on Monday, the 8th of November, 2021 at Owen Funeral Home and also for one hour prior to service time at the church.
Flowers are accepted or memorial contributions may be made in LaNell's honor to Tabernacle Baptist Church or Bartow Family Resources.
