Mary Jo Jones

Mary Jo Jones (Jo Babe) age, 88 of Cartersville, GA passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2024. She was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was born in Rome, GA on February 20, 1936 to Ralph Hobson Miller and Mary Evelyn Carey Miller. After graduating from Cartersville High School, Mary Jo began a lengthy career with the Lockheed Martin Company in Marietta, GA. In the beginning she worked with the C-141 Starlifter engineering design team, she later worked on the C-5 engineering design team until completion and finished her career working in the International sales department. She retired in 1999 with 44 years of service.

Mary Jo married the love of her life O.L. Jones in 1956 and had one son, Michael Miller Jones. In 1964, O.L. and Mary Jo purchased property on Mission Rd with a barn and pavilion, which later became a gathering place for family and friends. After Michael’s birth a swimming pool was added to entertain his friends and it too became a favorite summer gathering spot.

Mary Jo was an excellent cook and preparer of many meals. Southern cuisine dishes were her specialty. Holidays were always happy and cheerful at the Jones house. Her humor was contagious.

She is preceded in death by her father and mother; husband, O.L. Jones; son, Michael Miller Jones; sisters, Betty Weimer (Al), and Ann Wheeler (William). She is survived by the light and Joy of her life who was always there for her needs, grandson, Mason Strickland Jones and his mother Kim Dunn Jones; brother, Ralph H. Miller, Jr (Mary Nell), sister-in-law Fran Jones Elrod; nieces and nephew; Todd Elrod, Dianne Pike, Leigh Ann Dickson, Amy Lewis; special friends Chad (Shiloh) Williams and Barbara Sloan.

Mary Jo was a member of Sam Jones Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Sam Jones Methodist Church in her honor.

A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 in the chapel of Owen Funeral Home with the Rev. Lathem Postell officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:30 am until 12:00 pm at the funeral home.
