On Friday, January 22, 2021 heaven celebrated the homecoming of Marie Garrett Vaughan, age 90, of Cartersville, Ga. Born March 29, 1930 in Cobb County, Ga to the late Hoyt & Gladys Garrett. Marie graduated from Marietta High School in 1947. She worked for over 38 years at Lockheed Martin retiring in 1991. She worked in several departments as an executive secretary in upper management.
Marie and Sherlin were married January 13, 1958. They enjoyed traveling, camping and staying at their cabin on the river in Ellijay. They were avid square dancers and were members of the Blackwell Squares and later the Square Dealers in the Acworth/Kennesaw area for many years. After their retirement, they moved to Cartersville to be near family. Marie thoroughly enjoyed dancing so she joined the Boot Scooters of Cartersville.
They were members of Cartersville First Baptist Church. They especially enjoyed the fellowship of their Sunday School class.
Preceding in death is her Husband, Sherlin B. Vaughan, Joan Garland, Ralph and Lanelle Vaughan, Dorsey and Frances Vaughan, Herman and Marie Vaughan, Felton and Annie Vaughan, Frank Vaughan and Lillie Vaughan.
She is survived by Joyce and Wayne Swinford, Sue and Allan Garland, Jennifer and Jeffrey Vann, Reese Kelly, Hudson Vann, Preston Garland, Tim Vaughan, Lane and Bill Prather, Whitney Hall and Garrett Prather.
A celebration of Marie’s life will be held Wednesday, February 3rd at 2:00 pm at Owen Funeral chapel with Rev. Danny Barker officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour. She will be laid to rest at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Canton on Thursday, February 4, 2021.
She will always be remembered for her spunky and fun personality.
