Jerry Roger Hill Sr., 77, of Cartersville, GA, went to his heavenly home on Monday, April 13, 2020 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He was born on September 22, 1942 to Mike and Effie Hill.
Jerry was a dedicated member of Pine Grove Baptist Church and loved his church family. He had a servant’s heart, a great sense of humor, and an engaging personality. He cherished his family and always insisted that he loved them “the mostest”. He especially loved his role as “PawPaw”. He was a talented woodworker and was really a jack of all trades. He loved repurposing things and building birdhouses and then selling his wares at the Downtown Farmer’s Market. He was known for his “World Famous Boiled Peanuts”. He also enjoyed taking trips to the mountains.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his precious granddaughter, Rebecca Ann Woody; his older brothers, Ernest Hill, Lewis Hill, James Hill, Herman Hill, Clifford Hill, T.F. Hill, and Rufus Hill; his older sisters, Evelyn Holcomb, Sally Byars, Johnnie Hartsfield, and a baby sister, Ruby Faye Hill, that died at 9 months old, leaving him as the baby of the large family.
He is survived by his devoted caretaker and beloved wife of 58 years, Janice Dabbs Hill; children, Jerry Hill, Jr., Mark (Benita) Hill, and Lisa (Brian) Bearden; grandchildren, Bailey Bearden (Blake Smith), Brady Bearden, and Haylee Cobb; great-grandchildren, Logan, Lyle, and AnaClaire Woody; sister, Bonnie Fuiek; sister in law, Mamie Jo Hill, brother in law, Robert (Janice) Dabbs, and numerous nieces and nephews.
As a result of current mandates for gatherings, a private graveside service will be conducted by Rev. J. Clinton Green on Friday, April 17, 2020 at 3:00 pm at Oak Hill Cemetery. Family and friends may park at the graveside and stand at their vehicles, abiding by the distance regulations. A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held at a later date.
