Rusty was born on June 3, 1948 in Atlanta, GA, son of the late John Benjamin Oxford, Jr. and Dorothy Holleman Oxford.
Rusty graduated from West Rome High School and then attended Shorter College on a full basketball scholarship from 1967 - 1971, where he received his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. He was inducted into the Shorter College Athletic Hall of Fame and after fifty years still holds multiple men's basketball records.
Rusty had a life-long career in restaurant management. In his spare time he enjoyed golfing, bass fishing, playing cards, RV'ing with his family and friends and watching The Georgia Bulldogs.
Rusty is preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Joseph Farnell; beloved bulldog, Larry Munson "Sugar" Falling From The Sky Oxford.
He is survived by his loving wife of thirty-six years, Sharon Storey Oxford; sons, James Russell Oxford, Jr., John Elliott (Amanda) Oxford, Benjamin Drew (Ashlee) Oxford and Matthew Seth (Brandi) Oxford; grandchildren, Elliott and Riley Oxford, Lynlee, Bentlee and Everlee Oxford and Wyatt Littlejohn; sisters, Judy (Danny) Genone, Ann Farnell and Susan Myers; several nieces and nephews also survive.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at two o'clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, the 14th of September, 2022 in the chapel of Owen Funeral Home with Rev. Ronnie Payne officiating. Interment will immediately follow in Rehoboth Baptist Church Cemetery, Cave Spring, GA.
Serving as pallbearers are Jerry Shaw, Greg Hedden, Dawson Hedden, Arnold Nicholson, Robert Mauney and Ronald Nix.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o'clock in the evening until eight on Tuesday, the 13th of September, 2022 at Owen Funeral Home.
