Herbert “Bonelle Bryans, 92, passed away on February 14, 2020. Bonelle was born April 8, 1927 in Henry County, GA to the late Charles Marvin Bryans and Fannie Belle Whitaker Bryans. He was the husband of the late Sarah Bernice Carmichael Bryans.
Bonelle served in the United States Army with the 24th signal Battalion in Korea, August, 1945 through January, 1947. He owned and operated Double Cabins Grocery in Spalding County (1952-1962) and built and operated Ringgold Superette (1962-1967). Bonelle then served as Food Service Director for the Griffin-Spalding County School System from 1967 until 1985. He was a former member of Midway UMC in Griffin, GA and later member at Locust Grove UMC where he was named Man of the Year in 2002. He and his wife moved to Cartersville in 2003, where he was a member of Sam Jones Memorial UMC and spent countless hours as a volunteer with the kitchen crew. Bonelle’s helping spirit and devotion to Christ enabled him to utilize his generous nature in assisting others.
Bonelle’s pride and joy was his family. As dad, Granddaddy, and Big Papa. He dedicated his life to ensure his family was loved and cared for. His family will forever remember his passion for gardening and fishing and will always be grateful for his love, compassion, big heart, strong work ethic, generosity, and kindness.
Mr. Bryans is preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Bernice Carmichael Bryans, his parents, brothers; Alvin and Marvin Bryans, sisters; Nellie B. Brooks, LaRue B. Woodward, and Mildred B. Walker.
Bonelle is survived by his son, Mike and wife Joan Bryans of Cartersville, GA, granddaughters; Julie (Andy) Sneed of Castle Rock, Co, Brett (Jim) Opaleski of Acworth, GA, and Jennifer (Jeff) Pourchier of Canton, GA. He is also survived by eight great grandchildren: Garrett, Sarah, Sydney, Beau, Jaime, Cole, Charley and Aubrey. Several nieces and nephews also survive to cherish his memory.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at Sam Jones Memorial UMC on Monday, February 17, 2020 at three o’clock in the afternoon with the Revs. Kevin Lobello and Stanley Harrell officiating. Interment will follow the service at Oak Hill Cemetery, Cartersville. Serving as pallbearers will be: Bill Bowen, Charlie Bryans, Jimmy Jay, Jimmie Walker, and Bobbie Walker
