Gene was born on December 13, 1949 in Norfolk, VA, son of the late George Eugene Tate, Sr. and Jessie Mae Bridges Tate.
Gene proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1969 to 1973 during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge, he moved to Flint, MI where he began his life long career with General Motors, retiring in 2005. He married the love of his life, Leonore Guerra Tate in 1974 and were happily married until his passing, forty-seven years later. In his spare time, he enjoyed wood working, tending to his yard, watching the Atlanta Braves and spending quality time with his family and grandchildren, who were his pride and joy.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Clifford and Avis Bridges and David and Cordelia Tate.
Survivors include his loving wife Leonore Tate; children, Bryan (Sheena) Tate and Jessica (Chris) Turner; grandchildren, Taylor Gene Tate and his fiancé Tori Redding, Madison Bray, Katie Bray and Lucy Bray; sister, Rebecca "Janie" Tate; cherished dog, Bubba.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at one o'clock in the afternoon on Tuesday the 29th of March, 2022 in the chapel of Owen Funeral Home with Rev. Josh James officiating.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o'clock in the evening until seven on Monday, the 28th of March, 2022 at Owen Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be conducted at nine o'clock in the morning on Thursday the 7th of April, 2022 at The GA National Cemetery with military honors rendered.
