Dovie was born on July 23rd, 1946 in Greer, South Carolina to Ernest Coleman and Lonie Brown. She married James Franklin Carder, the love of her life in 1962. After moving around a lot in the Air Force and the Army, Frank and Dovie finally settled down in Atlanta, Georgia where they raised their three kids and eventually their six grandkids.
Dovie spent the better part of her life as a wonderful and loving homemaker. When she wasn’t raising her own kids or her grandkids, she was babysitting for everyone else. Kids loved to be around her, either on her lap or as close as they could get.
Dovie’s kindness and loving nature were second to none. She was a very strong woman who would go out of her way for anyone just to make sure that they were as happy as she was. Her strong principles and family values made her a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. They will miss her more than words can describe.
For those that knew Dovie, they will all tell you the same thing, that she was always smiling. It didn’t matter where she was or what she was going through, she was always smiling. That smile always seemed to shine a bit more though when she was at bingo with her family, when she was surrounded by her dogs, or when she was enjoying her morning coffee. If you called her in the morning and asked what she was up to she would likely respond “having my 2nd cup“.
Dovie is survived by her children, Jimmy Franklin Carder of Acworth, GA, Dovie Renea Barfield of Cartersville, GA, and Angela Kay (Rodney) Slarks of Kennesaw,GA; Siblings, Robert (Diane) Coleman of Woodruff,SC, Rocky (Debbie) Coleman of Pickens,SC, Ricky (Angela) Coleman of Woodruff, SC; Grandkids, Travis (Cara) Carder, Austyn (Jessica) Barfield, Kory (Misty) Carder, Kyle (Brittany) Carder, Cody (Lauren) Slarks, and Reed (Makayla) Barfield.
