Born August 9, 1930 in Bartow County, she was the daughter of the late Gladys Hayes King and the late Joseph Asbury King. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Onas A. Taylor and her brother, Harold Vernell King.
Doris lived in Cartersville, Georgia for the majority of her life. She graduated from Cartersville High School in 1947 and attended North Georgia College. She married the late Onas Alton Taylor on January 1, 1949, and together they had three children. She worked as an accountant until she retired in 2003.
She was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves and rarely missed watching their games on TV. She loved gardening, fishing, and traveling to Florida on vacation. She was very devoted to her family and loved them all dearly. She was affectionately known as “Nana” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter Rochelle Smith, her daughter and son-in-law Teresa and Wayne Rutledge, and her son Greg Taylor all of Cartersville; her brother Melvin Eugene King of Charleston, South Carolina; 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and numerous other relatives.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, September 21 in the chapel of Owen Funeral Home with the Reverend Nena Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 20, from 5 to 8 pm at Owen Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Kyle Taylor, Drew Smith, Carey Rutledge, Adam Wade, Tony Walker, and Season Weaver.
