Capt. Derrick Gene Evans, 42, of Taylorsville, GA passed away on Oct. 12, 2021 at his home in Taylorsville, GA. Visitation will be held at Owens Funeral Home in Cartersville, GA. Funeral will follow. Rev. Rob Miller of Reynolds Chapel Baptist Church will be officiating the service, and Burial will follow at Mt Tabor Baptist Church in Taylorsville, GA. Arrangements are by In Their Honor Funeral Home of Jasper, GA. Derrick was born alongside his twin brother Eric John Evans, to Teresa Pilcher and Ray Evans on July 2, 1979. Derrick attended Adairsville High School of Adairsville, GA and Graduated in 1998. He received his Associates in Fire Science and perused his career in the Bartow County Fire Department and Emergency Services where he climbed the ranks to Captain. Derrick was also a Chaplin of the Georgia Firefighters, he loved serving the citizens of Bartow County, and being a servant. Derrick Retired from Bartow County Fire Department March 2021 and continued his career as a project manager for HEPACO. Derrick was a faithful minister and servant for God that lead many lost to the Lord. Derrick is the former pastor of Old Nazereath Baptist Church of Centre AL, Cross Plains Baptist Church of Winston, GA, and Emmanuel Baptist Church of Rome, GA where he served faithfully. Derrick was very active in his children’s sports, coaching both softball, baseball, and attended the WHS fishing team alongside his son Luke Evans. Derrick is survived by his loving wife of 23 years Kimberly Dawn Evans, his children, Emily and husband Hunter Cowart, Ansley Evans, Luke and Blakeley Evans. His Mother, Teresa and husband Tony Pilcher, Father Ray and wife Donna Evans, Brother Eric and wife Maria Evans, Nephew Bryce and Connor Evans, Josh Day, Jeremy and Jacob Robinson, Nieces Presley Evans, April Day, Rebecca Robinson and more and great nephews and nieces and a host of Friends. Pallbearers will be Josh Bennett, Elijah Harris, Kip Warren, Peyton Silvers, Mike Jones, Dawson Paulin, Kevin Barnes, Trey Jennings, Billy Ward, Charlie Farmer, Josh Castleberry, Dustin Williamson, Darrell Abernathy, and David Myers.
