Dr. Ross was born on December 8, 1956 in Gunnison, MS son of the late William Ross and Christella Washington Ross.
Dr. Ross graduated from Kennesaw State University with a Doctorate in Education. He also proudly served his country in the United States Army and retired after twenty years of faithful service. He started his career with the military as a Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, NC. He later became a Dental Laboratory Technician at Fort Gordon, GA and also served as an Army Recruiter for three years at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Denver, CO. After retiring, he began a new career in Educational Leadership. He started the Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program that enabled middle school students to develop into responsible citizens and become tomorrow's aerospace leaders. His proudest accomplishment was serving as the Principal for J.A. Dobbins Middle School in Paulding county for twenty years. Dr. Ross was a true and faithful servant of the Lord and a proud and active member of Damascus Baptist Church in Emerson, GA where he served as the Youth Minister. In his spare time, Dr. Ross was an avid carpenter who loved to work with his hands. He built furniture and his most recent project was building a tree house that will eventually be used as an Airbnb.
Dr. Ross is survived by his loving wife of forty-three years, Dorothy Wilson Ross; sons, Cartess (Kimberly Alexander) Ross, Jr. and Michael (Shaneka Moses) Ross; grandchildren, Cartess Ross, III, Kayla Ross, Skye Ross, Haley Ross and Charli Ross; brothers, Frederick, William and Reginald; sisters, Victoria, Joyce, Elizabeth, Deborah, Christella, Sherrie and Gloria; a host of nieces and nephews and brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-laws.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at ten o'clock in the morning on Friday, the 16th of March, 2018 at Tabernacle Baptist Church with Pastor Roy E Fowler officiating. Interment will immediately follow in the GA National Cemetery with full military honors presented. Family and friends are invited for a comfort meal following the interment at 1:30 pm at Damascus Baptist Church, 174 Gaston Westbrook Ave, Emerson, GA 30137.
Serving as pallbearers are Cartess Ross, Jr., Michael Ross, Cartess Ross, III, Frederick Ross, Sr., Frederick Ross, Jr. and Danny Cockrell.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o'clock in the evening until nine on Thursday, the 15th of March at Owen Funeral Home.
