Mr. Walker was born December 30, 1923 in Bethel Springs, Tennessee, son of the late Benjamin Franklin Walker and Willie Plunk Walker. He was a retired teacher and principal, beginning and ending his career as a science teacher, first at Bethel Springs High School in Tennessee and lastly at Haralson County High School in Georgia. He served as principal at Stantonville High School, Coopertown High School, Springfield High School, Trenton Peabody High School, all in Tennessee; and Adairsville High School and Kingston Elementary School in Georgia.
Mr. Walker received his education at Lambuth University (Jackson, Tennessee) and Memphis State University. He taught night classes for the University of Mississippi. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army and was a recipient of the Bronze Star. He was a member of the Lions Club, VFW, American Legion, and the United Methodist Church. He enjoyed reading, politics, being with family, fishing, gardening and woodworking. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Johnny Walker; by sisters, Kathleen Brickey and Mary Jane Kernodle; and by brothers, Ray Walker and Weldon Walker.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Faires Walker; a daughter, Linda Williams and husband Wayne; sons, Lee Walker and wife Jeanine, Lynn Walker and wife Linda, Lance Walker and wife Dana; grandchildren, Brandon Walker, Leanne Walker, Chas Williams, Adam Williams, Matt Williams, Meredith Walker, and Mallory Walker; 4 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mildred Wagster (Tom) and Judy McAfee (Ralph); brothers, John Edgar Walker, Larry Walker (Wilma), Dale Walker (Ann); brother-in-law, John T. Kernodle; nieces and nephews also survive.
Graveside services will be conducted Monday, April 11th at 10:30 A.M. at the Georgia National Cemetery with Rev. Les Connell officiating. Interment will follow.
The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Owen Funeral Home.
Pallbearers include Brandon Walker, Chas Williams, Adam Williams, Matt Williams, Ed Goodman and Larry Williams. Honorary pallbearers include Lee Walker, Lynn Walker, Lance Walker, Wayne Williams and Dale Walker.
