Alton Lamar Grizzle

Alton Lamar Grizzle was born September 23, 1945 to Edd and Marine Bennett Grizzle. On February 2, 2021, he entered into the eternal presence of his Lord and Savior. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant sister, Virgina.

Lamar was known by many names; Hoggar, Daddy, Coach Grizzle and DaddyMar to his grand and great grand children. Hoggar was a nickname that followed him on the basketball court throughout high school and he later refereed high school basketball throughout north Georgia. In addition to basketball, Coach Grizzle especially enjoyed playing and coaching baseball, softball, and basketball with his children, grandchildren and took great pride in spending time developing baseball skills of his great grandsons. Everyone who played for Coach Grizzle loved him and he in turn took great satisfaction in developing future generations to love the sport. After retirement from a career in manufacturing, he graduated alongside his daughter, Kim, and became an educator; he also shaped the future for children while in public office.

Those left to celebrate his life and cherish his memory are his fiancé, Carrie (Peggy) Thomason White; his son Rodney and his wife Jody Grizzle and their children, Joshua and Jonathan; his daughter Kimberly (Kim) and her husband Jeff Harriss and their children Cami and Rhyne Abernathy and their sons, Copeland and Carter; Madalyn Ruff and her fiancé Todd Weaver; Jordan Harriss and his fiancé Emma Fortin, and Sarah Harriss. Lamar’s mother in law, Jean Cowart also survives.

Graveside services will be at 3:00 pm on Saturday, February 06, 2021 at Center Baptist Church. His son Rodney and grandson in law, Rev. Rhyne Abernathy will officiate.
