Mike was born May 1, 1953 in Stoke-on-Trent, England to Beryl (Cadman) and Harvey Robinson. He moved to the United States as an infant and lived in Louisiana, Connecticut & Nevada while his father served in the United States Air force. His family settled in Titusville, Florida in 1963. He graduated from Titusville High School in 1971. After High School he moved back to England to attend Portsmouth Polytechnic where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Sociology. He then went on to earn his Masters at University of South Bank London in 1979. Upon graduation he moved to Cardiff, Wales to get his teaching certifications at University of Wales, Cardiff and began his career as a High School teacher at Fitzalan High School. In 1994 he was awarded a Fulbright scholarship for the teacher exchange program which led him to Lake Tahoe, Nevada. Mike decided he wanted to call Nevada home for good and moved his family from Cardiff to Carson City in 1997. He taught at Douglas High School until 2009 where he made a difference in many students lives and also coached the Varsity Boys Soccer Team for many years.
In his retirement he moved to Dayton, Nevada where the simplest pleasures in life brought him great joy. He enjoyed spending his days with his loving partner Terri, cooking, gardening, watching sports, fishing, riding his Harley, and working part time guiding mine tours in Virginia City, Nevada. Mike had an uncanny ability to find happiness in just about everything he did and always made the most out of what he had. He was easily able to see a silver lining.
He is survived by his mother and father, Beryl and Harvey Robinson; brother Daniel Robinson; son Thomas Robinson; daughter Emma Conner; and his beloved granddaughter, Peyton Conner.
Many knew Mike as Mort or Robbo, but he was most proud of being known as Dad and YoYo. He will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved him.
A celebration of life will be held at a future date.
