Tommy was born in Granbury, Texas, Hood County, on June 15, 1939, to Hershel Raborn and Mendozia Neely Biggs. He was a proud graduate of the Class of 1957 from Granbury High School. He continued with his education to receive a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Arlington State College in 1963. Tommy was married to Dorothy Marie Shafer on June 23, 1962. They were married 61 years.
Tommy worked as a computer programmer for IBM on projects for NASA at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, for the Jet Propulsion Lab on the Mariner Mars Project in Pasadena, California, on an overseas assignment in Paris, France, and on an assignment in Kingston, New York, before returning home to Texas to finish out his career. Tommy worked for IBM for 29 years, then continued doing programming contract work for a few more years until retirement.
He enjoyed woodworking, photography, and genealogy. He was actively involved in his local church wherever he lived. Tommy served as a Deacon, Church Treasurer, Bible Study Teacher, and on many committees.
Tommy loved his family and was a friend to all. He was known for his kind heart and for helping others in need. He enjoyed staying in touch with his family and friends from all periods of his life. He was proud to be a husband, dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa, and was always a faithful supporter of his family’s activities.
Tommy is preceded in death by his parents, Hershel and Mendozia Biggs, brother Calvin Biggs, sisters-in-law Joyce Biggs and Nellie Biggs, and several nephews.
Tommy is survived by his loving wife Dot, daughters Anna Biggs and DeLynn Biggs Denton (Danny), grandchildren Allison Denton Halter (Jake) and Andrew Denton, and great-granddaughters Ellie, Rose, and Lucy Halter. He is also survived by brothers Albert Biggs and Kenneth Biggs, along with nieces Joy Burkhalter (Cecil), Patti Clark, Ellen LaLonde (John), Kathy Hooper (Steve), Darla Womack (Bobby) and Kayla Puckett (Kirk), nephew Terry Biggs (Laura), and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, and other extended family members.
A visitation for Tommy is scheduled for Monday, June 3, 2024, 6:00-8:00 pm, at Rhoton Funeral Home, 1511 South Interstate 35E, in Carrollton, Texas. Overflow parking is available at a city lot on S Broadway Street, just off Crosby Road. The funeral service will be on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at 11:00 am, at Woodlake Baptist Church, 2015 E Peters Colony Road, in Carrollton, Texas.
