Don passed away peacefully at home at Christus St. Joseph’s Village on Sunday, March 13, 2022, surrounded by his loving wife and children. He was born July 3, 1939, in Dallas, Texas, to William R. Richardson, Sr., and Lela Mae Parham Richardson in Dallas, Texas. He was a graduate of Grand Prairie High School in 1957, and attended Arlington State College for two years. He served in the Army Corps of Engineers in Germany from 1960 to 1963. He then married the lovely Mary Elizabeth “Libby” Hill in 1965 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Dallas, Texas. After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from The University of Texas at Arlington, he went to work for the City of Dallas Department of Public Works. He retired from the City of Dallas after a distinguished career spanning 30 years.
In addition to his wife, Libby, Don is survived by their four wonderful children and spouses: Mary “Shannon” Elliott (David), Dr. William “Stan” Richardson (Dr. Monique Biggins Richardson), Col. (Ret) Michael “Sean” Richardson, USAF (Dr. Susan “Sue” Aarestad Richardson), and Thomas “Steve” Richardson (Mandy Monteith Richardson). He is also survived by ten incredible grandchildren: Matthew, Jonathan, Patrick, Andrew, and Katherine Elliott; Liam and Helena Richardson; and Madison, Thomas, and William Richardson; and his seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving Don are his brother, William R. “Ray” Richardson, Jr. (Peggy Sigmund Richardson), and their nine children.
Don will be remembered for his devotion to his precious wife, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and his faithful love of his Catholic faith. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for fifty years.
He remained involved in national politics, and was a frequent correspondent with members of the Texas Legislature and U. S. Congress, as well as the White House, for the remainder of his life.
The family will receive visitation and a Rosary will be said at Rhoton Funeral Home, 1511 I-35E, Carrollton, TX 75006 on Thursday, March 24th at 4:30 PM. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St Ann, 180 Samuel Blvd. Coppell, Texas 75019 at 10:00 AM on Friday, March 25th. Interment to follow at Restland Cemetery, 13005 Greenville Ave, Dallas, TX 75243.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ukrainian Solidarity Fund for relief for refugees fleeing Ukraine; each online donation will be matched by the Knights of Columbus. Alternatively, please donate to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), or a charity of your choice.
