Mr. West you will truly be missed. You were one of my favorite teachers at mariner. Rest easy ?

Our youngest son, Brian, had Bill for a teacher at Mariner. Brian is now a high school English teacher and Bill is one of the reasons why.

To most of my peers, Mr. Bill West was Mr. West from Mariner High. To me he was a very close family friend. I have so many great memories that begin from meeting Bill as we first moved to Florida in 1988. He quickly became a great friend and neighbor to us. I want to thank him and his family for making Florida feel like home when we had left behind so many great friends in Indiana. From my childhood I remember celebrating the holidays at the West's house with cookie exchanges, learning to cook rice-a roni, tasting the fresh baked bread when Claudia got her new bread maker, playing with Chris and Angie, and going to the see movies like Jurassic Park with Bill. I recall once playing with Chris in his room, jumping on the bed and shattering the ceiling fan light all over the room. Of course it made a noise that caught Bill's attention. For sure I thought I was done for but Bill was so compassionate and understanding and turned this akward moment into a life lesson. I recall his laughter and fun side while attending regualar "BKD Brewmaster" gatherings in our home, where beer and wine were being bottled and sampled of course! My most recent great memory is dancing with Bill at my wedding and the great photos he and Claudia took in our wedding photo booth. By far the best fun filled photos in our album! I know Bill was greeted by many great people in heaven and has touched so many lives her on earth. I am saddend for his family and those he made such a lasting impression upon. You all are in my thoughts and prayers as you grieve a great life lived.

Claudia, though I am far away you are close in my thoughts. I find myself remembering your description of trips you took with Bill and the dancing lessons you both enjoyed. I hope these memories sustain you as you were wise enough to make the most of your lives together.

Rest in peace Mr West . And may God be with your family now in there time of loss and always! I will always remember him as one of my favorite teachers ever ! He was a good man and went beyond his duties as a teacher.

The Mariner family is long and extends throughout the US.  What a great treasure we have lost - our friend and our mentor - Mr. Bill West. I am thankful for all the memories we created - sponsoring National Honor Society, creating the magical and goofy Medieval Fairs, teaching AP and sharing a classroom next door to each other for years. Bill, my friend, I shall miss you greatly.  I am so thankful you came to S.C. last summer to  share one last bear hug.       Bill, I will always remember our last conversation.   It was vintage "Bill"---the kind and gentle one.   I attended a family funeral this morning in my hometown;  we had a special mass for you this past Sunday in Canton.
      You perhaps were the most intelligent person I knew, yet what I will always remember most is your "emotional" intelligence.   I stood outside your classroom door on many occasions as you greeted each student with:  "Hey, how are you?"  You were not posing a question;  you were answering how much you cared for every student---and they understood.

Condolences to you in your loss, Claudia, Chris, and Angela. I've got so many Mr. West memories, but what I'm remembering right now is that he was one of the best teachers I had at Mariner. I'll never forget his dry sense of humor, big laugh, and high standards for quality. He pushed me to read closer, write better, and think deeper. (And let's not forget he left an impression reciting Shakespeare lines perched in a tree and dressing up like Tinkerbell at Mariner's Renaissance fair…) 

We hope you find comfort knowing he touched so many lives. He will be missed.

Mr. West, im really sad that you past I only just meet you this year. You were my firsr English teacher in high school you are sadly missed already.  And "I know your shining down on us from heaven and one sweet day will see you again"from 5th period English :'(
