Robert W. Irvine, age 88, of Cape Coral Florida and Nahant Massachusetts passed away Friday, November 21, 2014. He was the husband of the late Phyllis M. Irvine who predeceased him on November 11, 2014 after 64 years of marriage. The family moved to Nahant in 1960 and built their family home on Desmond Drive. In later years Bob and Phyllis built a new home in Cape Coral Florida.
Bob is survived by his three loving children, Robert G. Irvine and his wife Anna DeIulis of Swampscott Mass and Captiva Florida; Mark J. Irvine and his wife Katherine Moleti of Nahant; Gayle Irvine Emond and her late husband Richard Emond of Cape Coral Florida. Also surviving are his four dear grandchildren, Katherine Emond Lowande and her husband James, Heather and Mark Jr Irvine and Daniella Irvine Gates and her husband Jay. He also leaves behind two loving great grandchildren, Landon J. Lowande and Haylee Mae Lowande. Bob was the son of the late Anna R (Crowley) Walsh and Robert D. Irvine and the brother of the late Marcia Panakio.
Bob was a veteran of the US Navy during World War II. He was a wonderful athlete, loved sports, and was active in both basketball and baseball at Lynn English. He also loved swimming and diving at the Lynn YMCA. Bob was an active member of Saint Katherine Drexel Church as well as being an usher at Saint Thomas Aquinas Church in Nahant. Bob was also a baseball coach for Nahant Little League and a life time member of the Knights of Columbus. He always actively involved with his children, encouraging them to achieve great goals. He loved and admired his grandchildren and great grandchildren and was always a pillar of strength and inspirational role model.
Bob began Irvine and Sons Plumbing and Heating in the 1960’s and the business flourishes today under the watchful eye of his son Mark. He was a proud man who loved his wife and family. A truer love story couldn’t be written. Bob cared deeply for his friends and was respected by all who came in contact with him.
Visiting hours for both Bob and Phyllis will be held in the SOLIMINE FUNERAL HOME, 67 Ocean St. (Rt 1A), Lynn on Tuesday November 25th between 4 and 7 PM. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday November 26th at 9:00 AM at Saint Thomas Aquinas Church followed by a joint internment at Greenlawn Cemetery Nahant. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the services.
