Richard G. Emond, 63 of Cape Coral, FL, died unexpectedly Thursday, June 5, 2014. Born January 5, 1951 to the late Paul and Cecile (Fisette) Emond and raised in Lowell, MA, Richard was a graduate of St. Joseph’s High School, Class of 1968 and was a Vietnam veteran serving in the United States Air Force from 1969 – 1972. He later received a B.A. in Psychology from Salem State College and a Masters Degree from Cambridge College.
Richard began his career as a social worker and ran the Lee County Children's Home and became Director of Human Services of Lee County in the 1990's. He was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling especially to the Bahamas and Maine. Some of his favorite times were spent with his grandchildren, listening to music, swimming and watching movies. They brought joy to his life.
He leaves his wife Gayle (Irvine); son Kenneth (Stacey) of Dracut, MA; daughter Katie (Jimmy) Lowande of Cape Coral; 4 grandchildren, Christopher and Maddalana Emond and Landon and Haylee Lowande; brother Michael (Lois) of Hooksett, NH; 3 sisters Pauline Vezina and Patricia Emond of Hudson, NH, and Theresa Emond of Lowell and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Coral Ridge Funeral Home, Cape Coral, FL, on Saturday, June 21st at 11am. Family will greet friends at 10am. Services will be followed with military honors. A secondary service will also be held in New Hampshire at the State of New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH at a later date.
