Peter Edward Knowler, age 53, passed away peacefully and surrounded by love, on March 31, 2024, at Gulf Coast Medical Center, in Fort Myers, Florida. He was born on November 5, 1970, in Nova Scotia, Canada to his loving parents, Ted and Frankie (Weinberg) Knowler.
In 1996, after his university graduation, he and Nikki (MacDonald) Knowler embarked on an adventure that brought them to Cape Coral, Florida. It is here where they settled and raised two beautiful children, Corey and Julia.
Of all the labels Peter had, son, husband, father, friend and colleague, the one he cherished most was that of a father. He took great pride in supporting his children. They meant the world to him. Above all else, he wanted his children to be kind, loving, and work to the very best of their ability. He wanted them to be able to face the world, with the knowledge that he would be there with loving support, always.
He cheered Corey on in youth hockey, and then supported his musical talents and academic accomplishments. He was able to see Corey graduate from university and embark on his profession as an Accountant, while also finding love with his partner, Savanna Doty. Peter was very financially savvy, and he and Corey had an opportunity to have some great discussions. He would joke that his son, in early adulthood, had already caught up with him, financially.
He followed Julia's softball career passionately, from the age of 5. It became a lifestyle! Traveling across the United States to watch her achieve numerous victories, state and national championships, as well as many individual accolades. His softball friends were like an extended family, and that period of his life was very fulfilling. He was thrilled when Julia committed to Clemson University, to continue her academic and athletic career. He was so proud she is a Tiger! We are grateful he was able to be by her side recently, to celebrate her success at her first collegiate tournament. She was the apple of his eye, and he will continue to be her biggest cheerleader.
He loved heavy metal bands and music. In his younger days he was an amazing sketch artist and played the guitar. He shared his love for music, good food and fantasy sports leagues, with lifelong friends. He had the best sense of humor, and his gentle way of delivering a one liner, with his soft voice, made it that much funnier. If you were the recipient of one of his signature bear hugs, you got to feel his warmth and kindness firsthand.
Peter had a successful career as a Probation Officer for the Department of Juvenile Justice for over 25 years, where he built strong bonds with his colleagues, and served the community youth. He was detail oriented, caring, helpful and aspired to meet every goal, and he always did. He was a wonderful colleague and work partner. He would do whatever he could to assist and had a great respect for his coworkers.
Other than supporting his children, he lived a quiet life. He was the son of a military Dad, so growing up the family travelled a lot. In recent years, he enjoyed staying close to home, the one that his children grew up in, keeping all of their sweet memories close by.
Peter will be remembered for his warm and genuine laugh. It was a defining characteristic. He brought quick wit, kindness, and an amazing sense of humor, to every conversation and person he met. But, mostly he would want to be remembered as a great father. Anything else would be secondary to him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on June 22nd, in Florida, allowing for a time when his father and daughter can join the rest of the family. Details for the service will be provided later.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to one of Peter’s passions: softball and youth safety.
With love for his daughter Julia Knowler, Clemson Softball
