Leonard Robert Tattersall Walker, age 93, resident of Cape Coral, Florida, passed away on March 28, 2012. Born in Coaticook, Quebec, Canada, on September 27, 1918, Len was the son of Robert James Walker and Mary Hannah (Tattersall) Walker. He moved to Connecticut as a young boy, and was raised in New Britain and West Hartford, Connecticut, where he fondly remembered milking the cows before going off to school. Len graduated from Wm H. Hall High School and went on to work in sales before starting his own home improvement contracting business, Consumer Associates. He settled in Harford, Connecticut, where he raised his family and lived until his “retirement” to Cape Coral, FL in 1985. As anyone who knew him, can attest, Len prided himself on being able to fix just about anything, and never really retired – always willing to help a friend or neighbor with a home project and insisting on performing his own roofing repairs well into his 80’s. An outspoken conservative, he maintained a keen interest in politics, and was never shy about expressing his opinions on the state of the country. Perhaps his greatest pleasure, especially in his later years, came from his extensive travels across the United States and Canada, which he continued to do by car, insisting on doing ALL of the driving himself until this past year. Len was a longtime member of the Elks and Orange Grove Senior Center. He was an avid follower of the Indianapolis Colts and UCONN Football and Basketball along with Indiana Basketball.
Len is predeceased by his first wife, Ruth Weymouth (Libbey) Walker) to whom he was married for 48 years. He is survived by his second wife of 20 years, Barbara (Box) Walker, of Cape Coral; his sons, Paul S. Walker (wife Susan S. Walker) of Indianapolis, IN and Robert G. Walker (wife Janet L. Walker) of Fairfield, CT; grandchildren, Christopher G. Walker, Shelly Walker Saxon, Candace Walker, Libbey A. Walker and Greydon R. Walker; great-grandsons, Greydon M. Walker and Andrew C. Walker.
