He was born August 31, 1924 in Pittsburgh, PA. Joe earned his Masters degree in
Electrical Engineering and then worked in the nuclear engineering field. He spent
two years active service in the Navy as a Navy pilot. One of his assignments was
flying into typhoons in the Pacific. He then was in the Reserves while working as
an Electrical Engineer. While raising his family he was an avid golfer and owned his
own plane, a Bonanza. Moving back to the Pittsburgh area he had a hundred‐ acre
farm, growing over sixty acres of corn, plus some livestock, while working fulltime
at Westinghouse. After meeting Ginny, he retired early to go cruising in his
sailboat. In 1989 they left Atlantic City, N.J. for Bermuda and then down to the
Caribbean for a 9‐month cruise. He and Ginny did much cruising in New England,
New Jersey, Maryland, up and down the east and west coast of Florida, Cuba, the
Bahamas, and the Dry Tortugas. After arriving in Cape Coral, Florida, June 1990, by
boat, he became Vice President of the New Resident Club, first male president of a
woman’s organization (Ex‐Execs), Commodore of the Nauti‐Skipper boating club,
Commodore of the Cape Coral Sailing Club, member of the Elks (loved dancing),
Cape Coral Social Club, and member of Cape Coral Community Church.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife of thirty‐ four years, Ginny, his son, Bryan
Holland, two stepsons, Kurt and Kraig Rishell, a stepdaughter, Karen Spencer, their
spouses, twelve grandchildren and their spouses, six great‐grandchildren, brother,
Dick Holland, and many, many friends.
There will be a service and Celebration of Life
at 10:00 am, Saturday, October 27, 2018
at Cape Coral Community Church, 811 Santa Barbara Boulevard.
Inurnment will follow at 11:30 am, Coral Ridge Cemetery, also in Cape Coral.
