It was Friday the 13th, but he never let that deter him, he saw it as a good omen. Although his name was Joseph, he always went by Michael, which confused many of his close friends when they found out.
He was one of six children born to Robert Carr and Selma (Fennimore) Carr. Siblings Susan (deceased), Patricia (Moragne), Robert (deceased), Janet (Salvatore) and Denise (Rainey). Growing up his childhood was filled with much love and happiness, he loved his family and instilled that love of family in his own children.
Mike's childhood was split between New Jersey and Florida. Coming into adulthood, he went into the Air force and served his country proudly. In 1979, he met his soon to be wife, Patricia Nealon, and married in 1980. They were blessed with three boys Robert, Jason, and Adam. Michael was a very involved father, and coached the boys in soccer and baseball throughout their childhood.
Michael's love for Florida never waned, and he moved his family to Fort Myers in 1990. Where his fondness of the Sun, Music concerts and amusement parks gave him immense pleasure. Balancing work and play was a priority for him. Through the years, he worked for several companies. While all his job experiences gave him pride and purpose, he felt, he found a home when he went to work for Washco Laundry and Equipment Company, he started out as a collector and worked his way up to Collections Manager. He worked there until February 21, 2020 when he was diagnosed with Brain Cancer. He never gave up on the idea of beating this disease and returning to work. His determination was so great that he would walk 3\4 miles a day and astounded his therapists with his rapid recoveries. But the battle proved to be much when he developed a perforated colon, unable to continue treatment for the brain cancer his brain swelled to a degree which left him in a coma. His life sadly ended on May 27, 2020. But his drive determination will live on in all who met and loved him.
Mike is survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and although there was many miles between them, they were always in his heart.
Mike's greatest pride and joy were his grandchildren, Declan and Emerson who were born to Robert and Laura (Estabrook) Carr. Shalyn, Kali, Allison and Sara, who were born to Adam and Crystal (Kristie) Carr. He lived to see them smile and grow.
Mike's passing has left a huge hole in our lives and our hearts, please take a moment to pray with us. Thank you to all our family and friends for your continued support during this difficult time.
