Dr Johnny Wilson Turner

Johnny Wilson Turner, M.D., 88, of Bokeelia, Fl passed away on December 19, 2012 in Cape Coral, Fl. He was born on May 1, 1924 in Amarillo, Texas to James Aubrey Turner and Emma Agnes (Wilson) Turner.

He graduated from Lefors High School, Texas; worked his way through college, completed his pre-med at the University of Texas. While there, boxing as a heavyweight, he won the school championship. He graduated in 1950 with honors from Baylor College of Medicine; Houston, Texas.

Dr. Turner served his country during the Korean War with the United States Army as Port Surgeon in Whittier, Alaska. While at Whittier he coached boxing to the troops, never losing a fight.

He began his residency in Family Practice at Group Health Cooperative of Puget Sound in Seattle where he learned medicine, surgery, orthopedics, obstetrics, gynecology and pediatrics. After his residency, he had a family practice in Ketchikan, Alaska and Rainier Beach, Seattle, Washington. He went into Emergency Medicine at Valley General Hospital, Renton, Washington where he became Chief of Emergency Medicine and then Chief of Staff. Johnny established a family practice and urgent care clinic in Covington, Washington and worked there until his retirement in 1987. After his retirement, he lived in Kent then Sequim, Washington moving to Bokeelia, Florida in 1999.

Johnny loved gardening (grew the best tomatoes), golfing (with a hole in one to his credit) and traveling the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia. He enjoyed classical music and playing the violin. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who had a world of experiences and always a story to tell. He could be opinionated but one always knew where he was coming from. Johnny was a kind, loving person. He especially loved his FIRST MATE Carol Ann whom he referred to as a breath of spring, the love of his life. She shared his love of fishing, hunting and gardening. He looked forward to his sons, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren’s visits; they loved boating, fishing and shelling with dad and granddad.

Dr. Turner is survived by his loving family including his wife of 26 years, Carol Ann (Geiger) Turner; three sons, Stewart (JoAnn) Turner, M.D. of Cape Neddick, Maine, Roger (Linda) Turner of Seattle, WA, Michael (Lisa) Turner of Spring, Tx; six grandchildren, Elizabeth Turner, Sarah Turner, Marie Turner, Benjamin Turner, John Robert Turner, Rachael Turner; sisters-in- law, Anne Turner, Joanna Turner and Rosemary Geiger VonBank ; brothers-in-law, Donald (Dorothy) Geiger, LeRoy (Jeanne) Geiger, James (Sharon) Geiger; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and dear friends. Johnny is preceded in death by his parents, brothers James Aubrey Turner and Bobby Gibson Turner.
