George Francis Maier

George F. Maier, 70 of Fort Myers, FL passed into eternal life December 26, 2016. He was born April 10, 1946 in Brookhaven, New York. After graduating from high school he served in the Navy, and then went on to graduate from Old Dominion University. He began his career as an Environmental Scientist and chaired many committees in his field. After moving to Florida, George became a charter member of the Gulf Shore Singles. He was a world traveler and told everyone he encountered about his adventures. He is preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Hilde (Weidgans) Maier, brother Herman Maier, and sister Barbara Darrell. He is survived by his sisters Terri Caporale and Christine Knapp, his daughters Dawn Goodno and Heather Lonski, his grandchildren Paul and Mary Goodno, and his companion Emma Field.

Interment with Military Honors by the U.S. Navy will be at 10:00 am, Saturday January 21, 2016 at Coral Ridge Cemetery in Cape Coral. A gathering will follow with his family and friends at 17401 Birchwood Ln, Fort Myers, FL 33908 (Clubhouse) to celebrate George's life.
