William was born in Hugo, Oklahoma to Lee Dover and Loney Dover. When William was just 16 years old, he left his farm home in Oklahoma to travel to Dallas in search of work in which to support his family. It was while working in Dallas that he met the woman he would love for 66 years. William married his wife JoAnn in 1958. William worked at a plastic manufacturing company for many years and later at a printing company before retiring.
He always believed in the value of hard work. When he wasn’t at his full time job he spent any extra free time repairing TVs in a small workshop business at his home in Dallas. He enjoyed CB radio operations and fishing with his boys. Just before retiring he and his wife purchased land in Canton, TX and on the weekends he started building their country home. He enjoyed the country life, working in his garden growing tomatoes, squash, peppers, cantaloupe, sweet potatoes and onions. William was a humble, quiet, very reserved man who was practical, self-sufficient, down to earth, an organizer of tasks. With ingenuity and inventiveness of many projects, he could build or make anything he set his mind to, including helping each of his children build their own homes. William was always willing to help his family out, always putting their needs before himself. His family was always what he held closest to his heart.
