“Sug”, as she was affectionately known to family and close friends, was born on August 16, 1936, in Wills Point, Texas, to Leonard Key and Lola Ray Stroud.
Wanda graduated from Canton High School where she was drum major and high school sweetheart. She studied at Tyler Junior College and later worked as a Librarian at Rockwell Collins. She married Charles C Dawson, her husband of 51 years, in 1968. Wanda enjoyed spending time with family, traveling to casinos, dinner with friends, and Sunday breakfast. She loved playing games and doing crossword puzzles, including the daily NY Times crossword puzzle. Wanda was a loving daughter, mother, and grandmother – a woman with a kind heart and loving nature. She was a loyal friend to all who knew her, especially to her BFF of 52 years Helen Rains.
Wanda is survived by her husband, Charles Dawson, four children, Teri Westerman, Vanessa Zacharias, Lynn Rickel, and Kyle Westerman, six grandchildren, Kris Westerman, Niki Westerman-Germain, Kasi Westerman, Chelsea Rickel, Kate Westerman, and Jett Westerman-Germain, and one great grandchild, Dawson Westerman.
Wanda loved people and brought happiness to all who met her.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2019, at High Cemetery located at Van Zandt County Road 2120 & CR 2115 in Canton, Texas. She will be remembered for her love and enthusiasm for living.
