Mary Ruth Flournoy

Mary Ruth Parker Flournoy, 95, went home to be with her Lord peacefully in her sleep on September 6, 2023. She was born June 3, 1928 in Winnsboro, TX to Jesse James Parker and Mary Esther Rhoades Parker.

A visitation/gathering of family and friends will take place at Eubank Funeral Home, in Canton, Texas on Saturday, Sept 9, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. It will be followed by a chapel service at 2:00 p.m., with Bro. Wes Wuerch officiating.

At the age of 20, Ruth married the love of her life, Van Flournoy. If you were around them for very long at any given time you commonly heard mom say “now Van Allen” as he would laugh while telling one of his stories. They were happily married for 73 years.

One of Van & Ruth’s favorite things to do together was to get out early on Friday mornings and start garage sale shopping. They both loved a good deal at a garage sale. They also enjoyed playing dominos (every Friday night) with close friends. They loved to camp and just be outside spending time with friends.

Ruth was a kind and caring person that always wanted to take care of others. She was a great cook and always enjoyed hosting family and friends at their house or making a meal or dessert to take to others in their time of need. She was always known for keeping up with her family and friends' birthdays and would always put a card in the mail to wish them well on their special day.

Ruth was also known for being a coupon queen. In her younger days while she was a stay at home mom, she would cut coupons while making her rounds to 3-4 different grocery stores to get the best prices and would pick the store that would double or triple her coupons. It wasn’t uncommon for her to walk out of a store with a basket full and spend just a few dollars.

Ruth is preceded in death by her parents; Jesse Parker and Mary Parker, her husband; Van Flournoy, brothers; J P and David Parker, her sister; Martha Harrison, and grandson; Steven Flournoy.

She is survived by her sister, Lee Smith; her son, James and wife Carolyn Flournoy; her daughter, Peggy and husband, Phil Elery; grandchildren, Paul Flournoy, Tammy and husband, Dave Gibbs, Tonja Caldwell, Tiffany Flournoy, Joseph Flournoy, Scott and wife, Ashton Elery and Mark and wife, Savannah Elery; 15 great-grandchildren, Randy, James, Cari, Gunner, Jesse, Isabella Ruth, Preston, Elly, Bjorn, Willo, Axel, Coleson, Eli & Hazel Ruth; and 7 great-great grandchildren.
