Funeral service for Elizabeth Rose Taylor will be held at First Baptist Church of Rockwall, Texas at 11:00 a. m. on Thursday, June 10, 2021, Dr. Ted Traylor officiating, under the direction of Eubank Funeral Home.
Elizabeth Rose Walters Taylor was born in Van Zandt County, Texas on December 5, 1942 to W. G. and Millie Walters. She was the youngest of three children, the only daughter.
Elizabeth’s career as a pianist all started with riding to lessons on the back of her brother Jerry’s bike. She began as church pianist at 9 years old at Pleasant Union Baptist in Edgewood, Texas. At her first recital, she was the only pianist on the entire program. Liz played for Vacation Bible Schools across east Texas as a young girl, and served as church pianist at Orchard Hills Baptist for many years as an adult. She loved teaching piano lessons to children and adults through the years.
The first time Ron attended Orchard Hills Baptist Church, he saw Elizabeth in the choir and thought she was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. They ended up in the same Sunday school class. As Liz, the pastor’s secretary, transcribed letters from the pastor to Ron while he was in boot camp, those letters soon became letters between Liz and Ron themselves. Ron hitchhiked home to see Liz on several weekends during their short courtship before they married on September 30, 1967. Ron shipped out to Vietnam one month later. They were married almost 54 years and had two daughters, Sarah and Amy.
Liz loved family, friends, church, playing the piano, making holidays special and baking chocolate pies. She was full of grace and class and always made people feel welcome. Her gift of hospitality was evident as she ended her career as a meetings planner at the Annuity Board of the Southern Baptist Convention.
She is preceded in death by her parents, W. G. and Millie Walters; and brother, Jimmy Walters.
Liz is survived by her loving husband, Ronald R. Taylor; daughters, Sarah Walker and husband, Eddie, and Amy Douglas and husband, Troy; grandchildren, Cate Baxter and husband, Jake, Caroline Walker, Cole Walker, Audrey Douglas and Alaina Douglas; her first great grandson, Rhett Baxter; brother, Jerry Walters and wife, Dianne; brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Lynn Rackley, Tom and Ann Taylor; many beloved nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews.
Interment will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Rockwall, Texas
