Maybelle was a 1944 graduate of NoCaHi, later named North Canton High School, where she played flute in the marching band. After graduation she went to Comptometers School where she quickly learned how to operate the key driven calculating machine and started her first job at The Hoover Company. In 1946, she married Richard Smith and the couple later had two daughters, Sandra and Charlene.
After her daughters entered school, Maybelle returned to work at the Spindler Company, where she retired in 1982. She and Richard spent much of their time traveling the United States, one of their favorite vacations being an Alaskan Cruise.
Richard died in 1990 and Maybelle found comfort in staying active. She was a long-time member of the North Canton YMCA where she volunteered – giving tours and arranging monthly programs. A faithful member of the Zion United Church of Christ, the church where she was baptized, confirmed and married, Maybelle participated in bible studies and womens’ groups.
