Born June 10, 1939 in Rowlesburg, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Dorothy (Courtney) Auvil.
She graduated in 1957 from McKinley High School where she was a member of the marching band. As a member of the band, she and a few of her friends missed the bus ... and that single oversight permitted her to meet, and ultimately fall in love with William “Bill” Richardson. Together, they had five wonderfully balanced children. Each have carried forth to pass the genes on to yet a new generation.
Janet ended a budding career at Superior Dairy in 1978 to join her husband’s company (and subsequently her children’s companies) where she worked tirelessly until her retirement in 2008. During this tenure, she and Bill have trained and inspired many employees, some of whom he hired directly from college. The family-owned business became a business that was a family - each individual hired was treated as such.
Janet’s spiritual life played a dominant role in her marriage and family as well. Her devotion and contributions over many years to the structure and function of Asbury Chapel AME Church in Waynesburg are a matter of record. This passion and dedication carried forward to the ultimate formation of LIFE Ministries International Church, Canton, Ohio.
In spite of the obstacles placed before them, Janet’s success over time, in the community at large, have been appropriately recognized, honored, awarded, and endorsed. She has earned the admiration and respect from all who had the good fortune to have known her.
She is preceded in death by her parents Andrew and Dorothy (Courtney) Auvil, sister Marge Redleski, her mother-in-law Alma Richardson, whom Janet acted as her caregiver in her final years, and father-in-law John Richardson. She leaves to cherish her precious memory: her husband of 61 years William “Bill” Richardson, her children Tonia Davis, Billie Richardson, Andrea Sutherland, Mary (Dennis) Scott, and Buster (Holly) Richardson, a step-daughter Terri (David) Kinlow, a sister Andrea Ellen (Paul) Kroh, a brother Andrew (Jody) Auvil, her grandchildren: Duane, Amanda, Jessica, Rachel, Christina, Darius, Miah, Kevin, Dennis, Matthew, Grace, Emily, Amelia, and Ava, and a host of great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews whom Janet was like a mother to each, and the balance of the Richardson family who loved her dearly.
The family wishes to thank the physicians and nurses at University Hospital and Aultman Hospital for their never-ending care. A very special thank you to our sister, Andrea, for her 24-hour care of our mother.
