Helen Johansen Heller

Born in New Jersey, she graduated from Ridgefield Park High School and attended Douglass College (Rutgers University) and Kean University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Education. She taught kindergarten and first grade in the Washington, D.C. area, in Mt. Ephraim and Glen Rock, New Jersey, and in Roanoke, Virginia.

Mrs. Heller was an active parishioner of Zion Lutheran Church in North Canton for 56 years, served as President of the Chechahco Garden Club, was active in the Canton Fine Arts Associates, Canton Preservation Society, IMP’s, Les Connoisseurs Gourmet Club, Malone College Associates, and was a member of The Wilderness Center, McKinley Museum Auxiliary, Symphony League of Canton, Friends of the Canton Civic Ballet, Canton Audubon Society, The Chestnut Society of Kent State University, and the Women’s Committee of Walsh University. She was a busy woman who loved life, her family, Church, and friends.

Preceded in death by her parents, Einar and Maria Johansen, her niece, Barbara Reilly Sierra, and her beloved husband, Charles, with whom she celebrated 54 years of marriage on July 19, 2006. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Drew and Beth Heller of North Canton, OH; daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Michael Humphrys of Lincoln, MA; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Chandra Heller of Massillon, OH; one brother and sister-in-law Kenneth and Ruth Johansen of Orange Park, FL; three grandchildren, Christian, Savannah and Summer Heller, and several nieces and nephews.
