Susan Lynn Chused of Newton, passed away peacefully, surrounded by love, on December 15th at 73 years of age. Daughter of Harry and Lenore Chused. Loving wife of John Still of 35 years. Beloved mother of Julian Still and his wife Kelsey. Sister of Judy Siegel, Wesley, Alan, and David Chused.
Susan was born in Chicago, and raised in Boston and Newton. She graduated from Northeastern University and traveled extensively throughout Europe, eventually finding her true calling: food and cuisine. After a successful catering venture with her business partner, Maggie McNally, the pair opened several highly acclaimed restaurants in the Boston area, namely The Blue Diner, Venus Seafood in the Rough, and Zuxuz Cafe. The Blue Diner ushered in an era of enlightened comfort food in the Boston scene, winning Best of Boston and James Beard recognitions and drawing regular celebrity visits including the Boston Celtics, the Grateful Dead and U2.
Susan returned to catering following her restaurant endeavors, managing events for Catering by Andrew, Northeastern University, and private clients. A true chef and alchemist of food; it was, for her, a language of love. Most recently, she sat on the board of Les Dames d’Escoffier in Boston, supporting the chapter’s efforts to foster local restaurateurs.
Susan met John at the Blue Diner, as partners they built a rich life together over the last 35 years, including the blessings of son, Julian and daughter-in-law, Kelsey. Active in the local food, art, and music communities, Susan had a keen intelligence, with high standards for energy and quality in everything she did, and a remarkably generous spirit for all. She is sorely missed by loving friends and family.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service at the Chapel at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham Street, Sharon, on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at 10 AM. Please follow signs to the back of the administrative building.
