Steve was born and lived in the Boston area most of his life. After serving in the Army during the Vietnam War, he received a doctorate in chemistry from Boston University. In addition to being a chemist, he was a talented a photographer. After serving many years in the US Postal Service, he moved to Shelburne Falls to care for his mother until her passing. He had a passion for science, and never stopped continuing his research in chemistry.
He was a lover of all the arts, but it was his ability to find and appreciate the exceptional in the most simple things - a flower, a cup of coffee, a gentle breeze - that was an extraordinary art in itself. He was deeply loyal in all things, continuing to drive across the state to get his hair cut from the same hairdresser he had been going to for decades as just one example.
Above all else, he loved and cared for his family and endured much arduousness to achieve his life's work - fulfilling to the end his aspiration to be dignified, appropriate, and morally correct - a paragon of right conduct.
