Dr. Sidney E. Barron

Dr. Sidney Barron. 99 ½ of Clearwater, FL passed away on November 14, 2024. He was born in (Roxbury) Boston, MA on May 8, 1925. He was the son of Mollie (Priven) and Morris Barron. He was married to the late Carol Anne (Schnitzer) Barron in 1953.

He attended Boston Latin School and graduated in 1942. During World War II, he was in the Army Air Force as a tail gunner on a B-17 Bomber. On a mission over Hamburg, Germany, his plane sustained a direct hit by anti-aircraft. He was wounded by shrapnel, but they were able to return to their home base in Debach, England. He received the Purple Heart, the Air Medal, the Victory in WWII Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal, along with various other medals. He is honored at the Purple Heart Memorial Park in Dunedin, FL.

After the war, he studied at Boston University and was accepted to Tufts College of Dental School and graduated in the class of 1951. Sidney began his dental career at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston before setting up a private practice in Brockton, MA, where he specialized in children and the handicapped. Upon his retirement, he was on his third generation of patients. He was on the Dental Staff of the Brockton Hospital and the Cardinal Cushing Hospital. He also instituted home dental visits for those who could not come into a dental office.

Sidney was past president of the YM and YWHA of Brockton, MA. He, also, served on The Brockton Area Board for Mental Health and Retardation for two years as president. He was president of the Brockton Committee to help the Handicapped, as well. He was a member of the Mass Dental Society – South Shore Branch. Sidney was involved in many civic organizations.

Sidney lived in Pompano Beach, FL for many years and moved to Clearwater, FL to the Preserve at Clearwater (formerly known as the Inn on the Pond) in 2014, where he served as the President of the Resident Council for many years. Sidney was the “Unofficial” greeter and always welcomed everyone who visited the Preserve with a big smile and made them feel comfortable and at home.

He was an avid reader, and he treasured all his books. His favorite game was Cribbage. He enjoyed participating in different activities at The Preserve, such as playing Poker, Bridge, and Bingo, to name a few. His favorite pastime was sitting by the pond watching the birds, fish, turtles, and the occasional alligator. He led all the Jewish services for the holidays and Shabbat. And most especially, Sidney enjoyed his cigars on a daily basis. However, most importantly, he cherished his family.

He is survived by four of his children, Sheri, Robert (Carol), David, Nancy (Ron), and predeceased by Pamela. He was also predeceased by his brothers Max, Harry, Leo, and his sister Blanche. He is also survived by his ten grandchildren; Adam, Jessica, Zachary, Rebecca, Stephanie, Daniel, Andrew, Molli (Alexander), Jeffrey, and Aliza (John), five great grandchildren; Adam, Max, Lily, Ethan, and Theodore; many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are invited to attend a Graveside Service on Sunday, December 8, 2024 at 11:45 AM at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham Street, Sharon, MA. Please meet behind the administration building at the cemetery by 11:15 AM.
