A loving husband, father and grandfather, he leaves behind his daughter Wendy J. Silberberg, his daughter Susan S. Miller, his son-in-law Mark T. Miller, his son Paul B. Silberberg, and his cherished granddaughter Samantha V. Miller. He was pre-deceased by his loving wife of 66 years, Joyce (Miller), and by his incomparable brother, Norman Silberberg. He is survived by his nieces Sarah Silver Rose and Naomi Silver and their children; his cousins from the Lasky, Silberberg, Petrillo, Gellender and the Levy (Israel) families; and his many friends including Harold Schneider of Dallas.
Philip was born on June 15, 1927 in New York City. An honors student, he attended Cornell University at the age of 16 before entering the army. He was honorably discharged from service in 1947 and returned to Cornell to earn a degree in civil engineering. In 1951, Philip earned a law degree from Harvard University and married Joyce. They settled in White Plains, New York, and Philip practiced entertainment and contracts law in New York City. Despite having the responsibilities of a law practice, and to the delight of his children, Philip was a hands-on dad who reveled in every aspect of family life. He shared with them his passion for law, travel, stamp collecting and photography. His children were proud that he also enjoyed volunteering his legal services to certain charities and projects. Among other efforts, he assisted with the development of the AMAS Repertory Theatre Company in Harlem, an interracial theatre ensemble dedicated to encourage and foster the talents of local youth. In 2007, Philip and Joyce moved to West Bridgewater, Massachusetts, where he became a Trustee and legal advisor for the Village at River Bend condominium association. Philip will be remembered by the many who loved him as a compassionate, loyal friend and trusted advisor with an infinite capacity for love, and as an eternal optimist.
