Son of the late Anna (Sandler) and Charles Sklar. Loving husband of Judith B. (Bennett) Sklar of 40 years. Beloved father of Fredda McDonnell and her husband Donald McDonnell of Lexington. Also husband of Pearl Sklar of Falmouth, MA for 38 years (deceased). Beloved brother of Ruth Levetin of Orlando, FL and her eight children. Cherished grandfather of Robert McDonnell of MA, and Nicole McDonnell of Georgia. Step-parent with his beloved wife of Karen and Gail.
Paul David Sklar was born in Boston, MA, and raised in Millis, Franklin, and Medway, MA. He was raised on a chicken farm in what was then rural Massachusetts. He went to Colby College in Maine for a semester, and then became a welder of planes in the WW2 war effort. He loved planes, and learned to fly small planes later in life. He loved his German Shepherd dog as a child, and that led to a lifelong love of this breed of dog. As a father, he brought his daughter Fredda to visit a breeding farm of German Shepherds and thoroughbred horses near their home in Sharon. This led to a lifelong passion for horses in his daughter Fredda and his granddaughter Nicole (Niki).
Paul was an entrepreneur, opening a number of businesses with his wife Pearl, such as making window cornices, ran a butcher shop in Roxbury, and a very successful Real Estate business in Sharon. Paul moved to Florida and married Judy. During their marriage, they lived in Massachusetts, Nevada, and Florida. Paul wrote a book on selling businesses, which Judy edited. In his long life, he lived independently and productively. Until a year and a half before his death, he was healthy enough to do his own yard work. Paul and his wife Judy remained independent, hardly accepting help until the last few months of his life. Paul cared deeply about his Jewish identity. Paul often lived by the verses in the song sung by Frank Sinatra, “I did it my way”.
