COL Marian Herman Putnam, MD, of Hyde Park, passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at 78 years of age, following a routine cardiac catheterization that went terribly wrong. Beloved wife of Brian Putnam, they observed their 50th wedding anniversary on September 7, 2024. Born in Cleveland, OH and raised in Washington DC, she was the only child of the late Robert Eugene and June Ella (Williams) Herman.
In addition to her husband, Brian, Dr. Putnam leaves behind her devoted son, James Nathaniel Putnam, and her four cats.
Dr Putnam had an active pediatric practice in Middleboro, Mass, from 1977 to 1983, before moving to Hyde Park, where she established a private practice of pediatrics from 1984 to 2014. She loved kids and the kids loved her. She also volunteered at the Channing Elementary School in Boston, assisting with setting up computers and other activities.
COL Putnam USAR MC (Ret) was an Iraq war veteran and was very proud of her service and achievements in the army. During her tour in Iraq, she was exposed to something toxic that caused a number of health issues, and she became a disabled veteran (DAV). She was active in veteran activities at the VFW in Dedham where she was the post surgeon, and at the Jewish War Veterans of Sharon.
Marian was an active member of Temple Israel in Sharon, where she read from the Torah a few times a year and frequently attended services. She and Brian enjoyed the Hazak senior group. She was a member of the sisterhood group of Temple Adath in Sharon and actively supported the rejuvenation of Adath.
Funeral services for Dr. Putnam will be held on Friday, September 27th at 2:00 PM at Stanetsky Memorial Chapel, 475 Washington Street, Canton, MA. Burial to follow at Sharon Memorial Park, Sharon, MA.
