Charlotte B. (Busny) Modest of Dedham, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at 95 years of age. Daughter of the late Lena (Hiller) and Solomon Busny. Loving wife of the late Edward Modest. Beloved mother of David Modest and his wife Forbes Singer of Pocasset, MA; Anne Modest of Washington D.C.; and Betsy Modest Brand and her husband Michael Brand of Ridgefield, CT. Cherished grandmother of Ryan Brand and his wife Sara; Rebecca Brand and her fiancé Dylan Farrell; and Emily Brand and her fiancé Liron Burstein. Sister of Irving Busny and his wife Judy; and the late Esther Simon and Naomi Kaplan. Loving Aunt and Great-Aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Charlotte was born in Boston, at Forest Hills Hospital, on December 2, 1929. Very early in life, she showed an extraordinary gift and love for music and the piano. Long before she turned ten, she came home and told her mother, Lena, that she could play the piano. Her parents supported and nourished this love. Charlotte, until her last days, would fondly remember the day the piano arrived at the family’s Melvin Avenue apartment in Brighton – hoisted up into a window with ropes. She learned the value of hard work at an early age – spending many hours working in the family bakery. Charlotte graduated from Brighton High School, Simmons College and earned a master’s degree in education from the Harvard School of Education. She was a teacher, a dedicated homemaker, a gifted pianist, and a sensitive soul with an artistic flair, who was always concerned about everyone around her.
Charlotte’s love and devotion to music was only bested by her love and devotion to: “My Eddie” (her husband), her three children: David, Anne and Betsy, and her extended family. They always came first in her life.
Charlotte’s love of and gift for the piano was generously shared with so many others. She performed hundreds of concerts at Boston-area continuous living communities and nursing homes and loved sharing her music with the Newbridge community.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Graveside Funeral Service on Sunday December 8th, 2024 at 10AM at Lindwood Memorial Park, 490 North Street, Randolph MA.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Charlotte’s name, may be made in her honor at the charity of your choice, or to a new scholarship set up, in her name, at the New England Conservatory of Music.
