Susan, known by Sue or Susie to many, was born to Christine and George Russell Krick in Santa Monica, California in 1940. Following her graduation from Canoga Park High School in 1958, Sue married her high school sweetheart, John Spencer Cunningham. Sue and John were married at First United Methodist Church of Reseda, where she devoted over 60 years of faithful service, specifically with the First United Methodist Women’s group. Together, they had two daughters, Kelly and Christine.
Those who knew Sue also knew of her love for quilting, creating many intricate and skillful blankets over the years, which will be cherished and passed down for generations to come. Sue was also an avid reader, competitive board game player, and devoted traveler. Over the years, Sue visited all 50 states with her husband John -- camping in their RV, exploring National Parks, and taking vacations whenever time allowed. Sue visited Hong Kong with her husband for their 25th wedding anniversary, and they visited New England with their daughters to commemorate their 50th year together.
During their 61 years together, they shared a love for music and dancing, as well as hosting BBQs in their backyard. Additionally, they enjoyed participating in a car club, celebrating their passion for their 1969 GTO.
Susan will forever be remembered for her infectious smile, warm demeanor, and selfless way of life. She brought light to every room she entered, and perpetually put those around her first. Sue’s legacy will live on through her charitable acts and the many lives she touched throughout her 79 years spent with us. Sue had an unparalleled love for her family and friends, and her presence will remain with those blessed enough to have known her.
Sue is survived by her husband, John; brother George “Buddy” Russell Krick Jr.; two daughters, Kelly and Christine; and six grandchildren, Whitney, Mikaela, Justin, Devon, Andrew, and Connor. A funeral service is scheduled for 11am on December 28, 2020 at the Gates, Kingsley & Gates Praiswater Mortuary in Canoga Park. Given Sue’s commitment to her Church and love for animals, in lieu of flowers please donate on her behalf to the First United Methodist Women’s Group (18120 Saticoy St, Reseda, CA 91335) or to the Humane Society of your choice.
