After graduating from Cleveland High School in St. Louis, MO, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He proudly served from 7-5-1949 to 3-27-1953 at North Island in San Diego, and on Aircraft Carriers Kearsarge and Boxer during the Korean War.
After discharge from the Navy, Bob attended Washington University in St. Louis, MO, from 1953 to 1957, graduating with a BSEE Degree. He later received an MBA degree from USC in California.
Employed by Hughes Aircraft Co. in Los Angeles from 1957 to 1989, Bob worked on the F-102, F-14, F-18, and the B-2 Stealth Bomber Programs.
Bob will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 61 years, Arlene (née Schulte), and son Steve (Julianne). He was preceded in death by his daughter Donna (Michael) Bigi. He was a wonderful grandfather to Rhiannon, Mike (Laura), Joe, and Sean Prokop; and to Johnny, Kimmie, and Christina Bigi. Bob will be forever remembered by his great-grandchildren Avery and Aaron Prokop, and by his sister Judi (Robert) Newman of Denver, CO. Bob was also loved by his sisters/brothers-in-law, his 13 nieces/nephews, 18 great-nieces/nephews, and by his many dear friends.
A viewing at Gates, Kingsley & Gates Praiswater Mortuary, 6909 Canoga Ave. in Canoga Park, will be held from 4-8 PM on Friday, 12/15. The funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, 12/16, at St. Bernardines, Calvert & Valley Circle in Woodland Hills. Interment will follow at 12:30 on Saturday, 12/16, at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Memorial Park, 5600 Lindero Canyon Rd., Westlake Village. A reception at Arlene’s home will be held after the interment.
