Passed away at the Campbellton Village Nursing Home on February 25, 2014, in her 102nd year, Mrs. Jean Chesser, wife of the late Gerald Chesser. Born in Runnymede, QC. on September 6, 1912, she was the daughter of the late David and Margaret (Adams) Gillis.
Jean lived her married life in Mann's Mountain, where she and Gerald operated a small grocery story. She also worked at Camp Harmony for many summers. Later she moved to Tide Head, where she enjoyed many more happy years. Appreciation goesto the Seniors Group who welcomed her, and of which she became a valued member. Jean is survived by three daughters, Janice Firth (the late Stillman), Geraldine Grey (the late Bernus), and Judy Allen (Robert), 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren. Special thanks to granddaughters Janice Mann (David) and Marlene Bremner (Scott) for their support and care of "Mum Chesser" in the last several years. Besides her parents, husband (deceased in 1976), and sons-in-law, Jean was predeceased by her 10 siblings: Jim, May Falle, Bill, Allan (Bub), Boyd, Ernest, Donnie, Isabel Kinsey, Freda and Malcolm.
The funeral service will be held at Maher’s Funeral Chapel, 64 Lansdowne Street Campbellton on Saturday at 11:00 am with Reverend Jim Postlethwaite officiating. Visitation at Maher’s Funeral Home, 33 Lansdowne Street Campbellton, Friday from 7pm to 9pm and Saturday at the Chapel one hour before the service.
