Jim was born in Trail BC on January 28, 1935 and left us on October 1, 2024. He joins many predeceased family members including his beloved wife Barbara Barkley, to whom he was married for 59 years. He leaves behind his son Mike and his daughter Christine (Mike) and many grandchildren and extended family. He was lovingly watched over daily by his dear friend Darlene, with whom he shared a very special bond.
Jim was a heavy duty mechanic by trade, but his skill set ranged over all the construction disciplines. He was regarded by many as the “MacGyver” of Campbell River. Jim had several hobbies over the years which included fly fishing, photography, downhill skiing, and vintage car restoration.
One of Dad’s most philanthropic activities was his role as the project manager of the Maritime Heritage Centre. This centre houses the famous BCP 45, the fishing vessel which adorned the back of the Canadian five dollar bill from 1969 to 1979.
Prior to settling down in Campbell River, Jim spent nearly 20 years in Kamloops working at the pulp mill and running a saw sharpening business on the side.
At present, there is no service planned. Dad will be reunited with Mom, and their ashes will be spread about Slocan Lake and other areas of the Kootenays, where many years were spent in enjoyment as a family.
We are so very grateful for the excellent care that Dad was given by everyone at Yucalta Lodge.
