Dorothy Margaret Andrews was born on New Year’s Day 1932 and passed away December 8, 2024. Predeceased by her husband, Pat Andrews. Survived by her daughters Pat Andrews and Joan Harris (Darryl), her grandchildren Derek Bushaw (Jessica) and Jordanna Lorencz (Darren) and great-grandchildren Ryder, Naomi and Kaleb. Dot treasured family and friends above all. Her life was one of remarkable contributions to her community.
She began her public service early serving on the CR Recreation Association, School Board, Comox Strathcona Regional District, Hospital Board and City Council. Many will remember her as a swim coach and equestrian supporter. She advocated for change, some liked her, some feared her, but most respected her. She had an infamous sense of humour breaking up more than one meeting with an off the cuff remark. Her honours were many and included Campbell River’s first Citizen of the Year, the BC Community Achievement Award and Freeman of the City. She was described as “smart, tough, honest and fair” and her only regret was “I wish I was young enough to do it all over again”.
She will be missed.
Memorial to be held at a later date.
