William Joseph Trout

William “Joe” Joseph Trout was born on February 17, 1948 in Harrisburg, PA, to William and Elsiemarie Trout. He was a devoted husband, dad, pappy, brother, friend, coach and PennState fan. He was a graduate of William Penn High school and has many funny stories as a student and altar boy at Our Lady of Blessed Sacrament.

He worked in many jobs since the age of 11. Starting with walking paper routes, then working at Singers, tending his dad’s bar, UPS and then finally finding his niche with numbers at the United Telephone Company, which later went on to become Sprint.

His life’s purpose was to be the best husband and father he could be. He had a heart of gold and the generosity he shared with others (strangers, neighbors, friends, coworkers and family) was unmatched. He set the best and truest example of working hard and giving of yourself.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Yvonne Trout (Dude). His daughters, Colleen and Kristy. Colleen’s spouse, Steve Thompson, and their two boys Bradyn and Landon. Kristy’s Significant Other, Ray Thompson and her four children, Kaelan, Kylee Rose, Tristan and William. Additionally, he is survived by an older brother, Geary, two sisters, Constance (Joe) Baker, Michaelee (Gene) Coldsmith, his brother-in-law Mark (Nancy) Frey and countless nieces and nephews. He is also survived by some of the best coworkers at Sprint who became like a second family to him. And lastly, by two of his best friends who have been by his side for many, many years. Dennis Crumlich (Celia) and Frank Stringfellow (Darlene).

When he wasn’t watching PennState Football or PTI, he enjoyed golfing, going for breakfast at Hamilton and Peachtree, listening to music, doing crosswords, playing with all his cats and dogs, reminiscing about the good ole days, giving words of wisdom to his kids and beaming with pride over his grandkids. He lived for his wife, and when he wasn’t giving her a hard time, he was spoiling her in the ways he knew how, which typically involved a Dunkin Donuts coffee.

His last month was made easier with the support of the Homeland Hospice team of Kristan, Robin, Kandi, Angie and Hadiza. He passed peacefully with his wife by his side on January 10th, 2024, after a long and hard battle with cancer. His body is restored and he is walking again alongside those who have passed before him, including his parents and some dear friends.

While his family mattered most of all, some of his greatest joys in life were shared on the ball fields (football, baseball, basketball, softball and the greens) as a kid, a coach and then later in life just for fun with many of his dearest friends. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in memory of Joe aka “Magic” to a little league of your choice. Perhaps it will inspire another kid to live a life of fun and joy through sports, friendship and family, like it did for him.
