Thelma was born on October 29, 1936, the fourth of 10 children of the late Walter and Bessie (Lane) Peck of Breezewood, PA. As a teenager, she moved to Millersburg to live and work with her beloved Aunt Austa at the Millersburger Hotel.
In August of 1958, Thelma married James Heim. Jim and Thelma spent their 52 years in Williamsport, Millersburg, and Mechanicsburg, before Jim’s death in 2011.
In addition to the Millersburger Hotel, Thelma worked as a housekeeper for Dr. Rahn and Mary Hotteinstein, and in the kitchen and dining rooms at Susquehanna Lutheran Village and Bethany Village. She retired from Bethany Village at age 80.
Thelma’s true passion was taking care of others. Whether you were a relative, neighbor, or friend, she was ready to provide anything from a hot meal to 24 hour care. She loved gardening, baking, NASCAR, and Penn State. Her apple pies were legendary.
Thelma was a member of Grace United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School, and Mount Olivet Church where she volunteered in the kitchen and baked for Meals on Wheels. She also attended St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.
Thelma is survived by her daughter Arlene Dyba of Millersburg; her son David Heim and his wife Tammy of Harrisburg; grandchildren Jimmy, Jesse, and Adam Starr and Morgan Heim; great grandchildren Landen and Marian Heim and Zelda Starr; brothers Veryl, Boyd, Richard, Duane, and Paul Peck and sisters Gussie Peck and Audrey Fischer; many nieces, nephews, and cousins
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her infant daughter Wilma and her brothers Gerald and Daniel Peck.
A funeral service for Thelma will be held Monday November 18, 2024 at 12:00PM Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, 5000 Simpson Ferry Rd, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050. There will be a viewing held before the service at 11AM at the church. Internment will follow at at Rolling Green Cemetery 1811 Carlisle Rd, Camp Hill, PA 17011.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation to Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church or to Hospice of Central PA.
