June 4, 2020 at the Middletown Home after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Captain Miller was 81.
RJ was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Ann Munchel Miller, of Harrisburg, his parents John Carlton Miller and Doris Bennett Miller Stevens, and a brother John Miller, all of Trenton New Jersey.
He is survived by his daughters Michelle Houseknecht and her husband, David
Houseknecht, of Camp Hill, and Lisa Koup and her husband Gary of Lingelstown. Captain Miller
had four grandchildren, Christopher Koup of Harrisburg, Joshua Houseknecht of Mechanicsburg, Maia Houseknecht of Camp Hill and Annalise Koup of Linglsetown. He is additionally survived by his sister, Lynn Miller Cattani and her husband Cyrus Cattani of Yardley PA. He had several nieces and nephews.
Captain Miller joined the US Army in 1955, 50th Armard Division, New Jersey National Guard,
Headquarters Co. 28th Division, PA National Guard. Captain Miller joined Harrisburg City Police
in January of 1965, graduated from the Pennsylvania State Police Academy in 1970, and retired
from the City of Harriburg in 2002 after 37 years on the force. He also attended Harrisburg Area
Community College. He was a member of the FOP, Lodge #12, and the ELks.
Prior to his retirement, he enjoyed many years of working part-time security for Bishop McDevitt
High School dances and sporting events. He continued to cheer for the Crusaders in his
retirement. He loved attending Harrisburg Senators games, eating hotdogs at the Spot, and
cheering for the Phillies, the Eagles, and Penn State football. He was Pennsylvania proud. In
his In his retirement he enjoyed spending time with his daughter and grandchildren who he
loved more than life. He was a wonderful dad and grandfather.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Friday, June 12, 2020 at Holy Name of Jesus Roman Catholic Church, 6150 Allentown Blvd, Harrisburg, PA 17112. Burial will be at Rolling Green Cemetery, Camp Hill. A viewing will be held at 10:00 AM Friday until the time of the service at the church.
