Ben was born May 14, 1930 in Chambersburg, PA and was the son of the late Maurice. B. Mentzer Sr. and Martha (Sollenberger) Mentzer.
He was self-educated after attending the Portico School in his younger years and was a self-employed timber harvester for over 50 years.
Ben was a proud member of the Market Square Presbyterian Church in Harrisburg where he taught Sunday school for over 20 years. He later became a Deacon of the church.
In addition to his parents, Ben is preceded in death by his brother, John Allen Mentzer and seven sisters; Susan Witmer, Mary Wenger, Fannie Diller, Anna Keller, Alma Hoch, Kathryn Frey and Marian Frey.
His beloved wife of 37 years, Jane E. Kindig Mentzer, survives him. Ben is also survived by his daughters; JoAnne M. Sprow, Sharon K. Perry (Michael.,) Cheryl R. Puskarich, and his step-daughter, Heidi L. Kindig(Preston) as well as his four grandchildren; Heidi J. Knaub(Donnie), Joseph Perry, Alexandra Perry and Nicholas Perry (Mary Frances.) His sisters Lois Kipe and Sara Diller also survive.
A witness to the resurrection of Christ and in Celebration of the Life of Maurice Ben Mentzer will be held on Monday, July 29, 2024 at 12pm at Parklawns Chapel, Memorial Gardens & Mausoleum, 3218 Philadelphia Ave, Chambersburg, PA 17201 with Rev Delmas Hoch officiating. A viewing will precede the funeral service at 11am at the chapel. Burial will immediately follow the services at the cemetery at Parklawns.
