Betty Manbeck Kilgore, 88, formerly of Camp Hill, departed this life on December 21 at Green Ridge Village in Newville, PA, where she was treated for dementia. She was born in Philipsburg, PA, the daughter of the late Emery and Julia Stack, and preceded in death by her husband, Raymond L. Kilgore in 2002.
She was retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue as a clerk typist and was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Camp Hill, PA. Betty had a heart for community service and was a member of the Camp Hill Women’s Club and Good Shepherd’s Parish Council of Catholic Women.
One of her most memorable service projects involved transporting children afflicted with cerebral palsy from their homes in Harrisburg’s Allison Hill section to the former United Cerebral Palsy treatment center in Camp Hill. She was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, dancing, gardening and reading with a deep appreciation for classical, contemporary and sacred music and regularly attended Harrisburg Symphony orchestra performances.
Also preceding Betty in death was Edwin S. Manbeck II and her sister, Catherine Fanning. She is survived by three children, Bob Manbeck and his wife, Kathy of Dillsburg, Mary Shorb and her husband, Bob of Irving, TX and Tom Manbeck, and his wife, Beth of Terre Haute, IN.
She is also survived by six grandchildren, Mark Manbeck and his wife, Mikaela of Memphis, NY, Steve Manbeck and his wife, Kaitlin of Elizabethtown, PA, Charlie and Eileen Hoedebeck of Dallas, TX, Tarrah Reich and her husband, Drew of Reading, PA, Tie Crisi of Reading, PA and two great-grandchildren, Ryder Reich and Joshua Manbeck. In addition, she is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Additionally, Betty is survived by step children Daniel Kilgore and his wife, Pat of Elliottsburg, PA, Fred Kilgore and his wife, Nancy of York and Robert Kilgore and his wife, Penny of Lititz, PA. Predeceasing Betty were stepchildren David Kilgore and Susan Elzy.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Friday, December 27. 2019 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church 3435 E. Trindle Rd. Camp Hill, with viewing from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to mass. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family at Mt. Rose Cemetery in York, PA.
