Passed away peacefully at her home on Homuth Avenue, Cambridge on December 9, 2014 with her niece and long time caregiver at her side. Millie was born in Long Beach, California, November 21, 1924 and had just celebrated her 90th birthday.
Millie is survived by her husband of 29 years, Patrick Baker, a brother Wayne Ramsbottom, her daughter Diana Lynn Dickinson and step-son Raymond Van Der Aa. Also two grandchildren Stephen and Melissa and six Great grandchildren James, Dominique, Lydia, Nikolas, Kaleb and Serenity.
Predeceased by brothers Eugene and Victor Ramsbottom and Thurman Henry and sisters Janine and Ella Ramsbottom.
With a great history of community service she was well known for her hard work and dedication to seniors and veterans for over 40 years. She was a member of the Dutch Club and the South Waterloo Navy Club. She served as the treasurer for Cambridge Canada Day for thirty three years.
She was also an active member of the Cambridge Warriors Day committee.
Millie was a Life Member of Preston Branch 126, Royal Canadian Legion and served for many years on the branch executive and also a Life Member and past President of Br. 126 Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
She was chairperson of the seniors and veterans programs for over twenty years and past Service Officer for Veterans in Preston. Millie also served four years as the Royal Canadian Legion Zone C2 Seniors Program Chairperson.
For her exceptional service to the Royal Canadian Legion she was awarded the Legion’s two highest honours, the Meritorious Service Medal and the Palm Leaf Medal.
For many years she conducted campaigns that raised thousands of dollars and organized annual
visits by Legionnaires and Air Cadets in support of the Parkwood Veterans Hospital in London. Millie
was also a staunch supporter of 822 Air Cadets and the Cadet Youth Development Centre.
She was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church, Preston, Cambridge and will be dearly missed by all
who knew her.
A Memorial Service for Millie will be held on Saturday December 20, 2014 at 1 pm in the main hall,
Preston Branch 126, Royal Canadian Legion, 334 Westminster Drive, North, Cambridge.
The family would like to thank her niece, dear friend, companion and caregiver Barb Leu for all the
kindness and caring for Millie throughout her prolonged illness. Also special thanks to Dr. Skillman,
Millie’s personal physician.
In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Luke’s Place Cambridge or 822 Tutor Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Cadets would be greatly appreciated.
